Fisheries nets a handy data-capture tool
Digital pens are enabling fishery protection officers across the North East of England to fill in catch monitoring forms on the quayside or at sea and file the information directly to a central database.
The system, developed by public sector IT supplier Innovation Leeds, uses a camera in the pen to capture and digitise written information. This is then transmitted wirelessly to the database using Bluetooth technology and a standard mobile phone.
