The number of users of the NetWare server operating system is still going down as Novell users increasingly come to rely on Windows- and Linux-based systems.
But Novell chief executive officer Jack Messman promised that NetWare still had a future development path.
While Novell used the US conference to show off its recently launched Suse Linux Enterprise 10 platform, and wider wireless mobile support for its GroupWise e-mail platform, attendees were pleased to hear of NetWare’s continued support.
Messman’s promise to support NetWare 6.5 to at least 2015 drew cheers from the crowd. “If you want to continue to run on NetWare, I encourage you to upgrade to 6.5,” said Messman.
The support will mean that NetWare users will be able to easily integrate Novell’s newer Linux-based server platforms into their networks.
