StorageTek has unveiled a mid-range Linux-based data archiving appliance designed to compete against products from companies such as EMC.

The IntelliStore Intelligent Archive Solution from StorageTek captures business data as it is archived or migrated, and automatically stores that data based on security, data protection, and regulatory requirements.

The files are stored on the company’s flagship disk-to-disk StorageTek FLX600 storage sub-system.

The mid-range IntelliStore solution is designed to compete against systems such as EMC’s Centera line.

StorageTek is subject to an acquisition bid by Sun Microsystems.
