Windows 98 Second Edition users feeling neglected by a lack of Microsoft support can update their aged operating system with a cumulative service pack from an independent Turkish computer engineering student.

Alper Coskun has released version 2.0 of his Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack.

Microsoft never issued a service pack for Windows 98 SE and ended free support for the operating system in 2003, although it does put out occasional critical security patches.

Coskun issued version 1.0 of his free service pack a year ago. Users who like what they get are invited to send him a donation via his PayPal account on the site.

Coskun’s service pack has fixes for more than 100 bugs in Windows 98 SE, mainly gleaned from Microsoft’s own update site.
