Web search company Ask Jeeves may launch its own branded browser based on the increasingly popular Firefox browser from the open-source Mozilla Foundation.

The two companies have recently been in talks and it is believed that in return for the use of Firefox browser technology, Ask Jeeves may consider donating the technology from its desktop search solution.

Ask Jeeves acquired its desktop search technology after it acquired a company called Tukaroo last year.

Google is also close to Mozilla, amid rumours it plans to launch its own browser based on Firefox. The lead engineer of Firefox joined Google last month.

Recently, AOL announced that it is developing a desktop search service.
