Landmark changes giving IT specialists simpler access to a BCS professional membership grade have been given the go-ahead by the Privy Council.

The changes - expected to bring 50% annual membership growth - were voted in by a majority of BCS members. They will take effect on 1 May.

The changes offer earlier recognition of professional experience, with simpler procedures for gaining member status. There will also be a clearer path to chartered status and a new title, chartered IT professional.

The aim is to make BCS professional membership more accessible to experienced IT specialists.
