Research will set project management benchmark

Cliff Saran, the online arm of Computer Weekly, is launching a landmark study of IT project management and is inviting contributions from readers.

The IT Project/Programme Management Survey is run by in partnership with Oxford University's Templeton College and change management consultancy the French Thornton Partnership.

Christine Cuthbertson, senior research associate at the Templeton College, said, "Since the 1960s IT projects have always caused a problem in businesses." This new research will create a benchmark for project managers, she said. The project will be lead by Chris Sauer, research fellow for information management at Templeton College.

It will be based on four, short, confidential online surveys running over the next 16 weeks. The survey is available now at Those who complete all four will receive e-mail feedback and a copy of the full report, which will be compiled after the last questionnaire closes.

"This research will provide an important milestone in understanding the state of IT project management in the UK today," said Hooman Bassirian,'s content director.
