The company reports Version 7.0 of the application server features compliance with the J2EE 1.3 specification, said Eric Stahl, senior product marketing manager at BEA.
J2EE 1.3 features Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 2.0 support, Stahl said.
"The big pieces of the EJB specification give you things like message-driven JavaBeans, which allows you to build asynchronous architectures in your J2EE application," Stahl said.
This feature boosts client application productivity by freeing the client to perform other tasks while the back-end server handles processes, said Stahl.
EJB 2.0 also offers enhanced container persistence to improve connectivity to databases.
Boosting its Web services capabilities, BEA is adding a full Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) implementation to host private or public registries in WebLogic Server, said Stahl.
WebLogic Server previously supported the SOAP and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) Web services standards. Version 7.0 also features a custom XML parser.
In addition, BEA has added new developer tools in Version 7.0 to automate development processes around packaging and deployment of applications, said Stahl. He added, that the product is also designed to support large-scale application deployments.
BEA is touting its recently acquired Java Virtual Machine (JVM) as part of Version 7.0.
"There was no platform-independent provider of a JVM for Windows and for Linux," Stahl said.
Messaging has been enhanced in Version 7.0 through the Java Message Service to enable high system availability, Stahl said.
