LinuxWorld: Caldera revamps Volution Manager

Caldera International will next month deliver version 1.1 of its Volution Manager Web-based management and administration system in a bid to boost its Web services strategy.

The updated release, which now supports all the popular versions of Linux, is primarily designed to help system administrators easily scale their existing resources and roll out Web services and other deployments more cost effectively.

Some of the new features include the ability to manage multiple platforms from one interface, a new install option that simplifies reviews, evaluations and deployments, a status and diagnostics features to reduce troubleshooting time, and tighter integration with Volution Online, which provides an Internet-based software management service.

Caldera has also integrated version 1.1 with Compaq Computer's Insight Manager to offer a stronger management solution for both Linux and Caldera Unix products on Compaq's server hardware.

Caldera also announced the availability of its OpenLinux Workstation 3.1.1 and OpenLinux Server 3.1.1 at LinuxWorld.

Both versions feature version 2.4.13 of the Linux kernel, support for the KDED 2.2.1 graphical interface and improved support for working with Caldera's Volution Messaging Server and Volution Manager 1.1.
