Unisys has licensed NetIQ's Appmanager software for its e-@ction Enterprise Servers. The software allows users to manage and monitor Windows 2000-based ES7000 and ES5000 servers to increase system availability while minimising operational involvement and costs.
Through Appmanager, network managers gain a complete view of the Windows 2000 environment from a single console. NetIQ aims to provide the same level of toolset support found in a mainframe environment, which is essentially what these servers are, according to Jim Doherty, NetIQ's director of sales.
Unisys has established a reputation for reliability in enterprise servers and applications, while NetIQ provides Tivoli-like management features but only for the Windows NT and 2000 platforms.
Doherty said, "It's a win-win situation. NetIQ receives Unisys' endorsement, Unisys receives a new tool to offer, and the customer gains a complete tool to obtain an insight about what is happening in a server. It will also help Microsoft in its efforts to market and sell its Datacenter product."
