Novell promises to improve security and ease the problems of managing multiple applications with the introduction of DirXML.
The tool will help companies manage their business processes more effectively by using directory services, Novell said.
DirXML has been designed to enable enterprise applications take advantage of the management and security of directory-based computing. Novell claims DirXML is the first tool to centraliseand automate business processes, allowing companies to integrate existing applications with those of their customers and partners, without special application programming or modification.
DirXML works in conjunction with the Novell's eDirectory service, to help businesses integrate processes and existing applications across the enterprise.
Novell said DirXML will allow users to provide employee provisioning, customisable partner and customer relationship management, and universal employee access to corporate information and applications.
"By merging the directory fully with business processes, we are moving the directory beyond an IT function to become the foundation for business solutions," said Paul Smart, vice-president and general manager, Net Directory business unit at Novell.
Software developers and network engineers access Novell's eDirectory through Java Beans and XML components by using the DirXML tool.
