Salesforce.com and BMC Software have joined forces to provide cloud-based IT service management (ITSM), aimed at streamlining IT support processes and reducing costs.

Called Remedyforce, the joint service is built on Salesforce.com's Force.com platform and will drive cloud computing throughout the IT departments at businesses of all sizes, said the company.

Bob Beauchchamp, CEO at BMC Software, said during a keynote session at Salesforce.com's annual conference, Dreamforce, in San Francisco, that mobility means reports can be accessed natively. "Integration with other clouds means customers can interoperate. This is accomplished stuff. We're going to change the game," he said.

Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com added, "This is huge step forward for the cloud".

Features include a service desk integration, configuration management database, Salesforce Chatter support, mobile access, reporting and analytics.

BMC Software recently announced an alliance with Cisco to support large-scale, multi-tenant cloud computing infrastructures. Under the alliance, the two companies said they would align product-development roadmaps and technology architectures.
