Video: ASUS EeePC taken apart

The Asus eee PC has become the travel item of choice for executives and road warriors who are in a hurry to get the job done, say Gartner analysts.

Brian Gammage, who follows the PC market for Gartner, said sales of ultra-lightweight but highly specified laptops outstripped even their most optimistic projections. “There’s something real happening here, and you need to get to grips with it,” he told CIOs at the Gartner symposium in Cannes this week.

He said end users are buying PCs like the Asus eee, which offer affordability, lots of features, connectivity and robustness. As these aren’t on the IT budget, CIOs need to take note and deal with the security and usability issues they present, he said.

To show just how robust the Asus is, he gave it drop test. Twice. See the results here.
