Driven by market requirements and supported by UK government subsidies of $8.5m, a number of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology demonstration pilots and rollouts are occurring in the UK and throughout the European Union.
Calling it the Chipping of Goods Initiative, the government grant is aimed at reducing property-related crime, thus reducing the cost of prosecuting criminals. Government support is welcomed at this stage for any reason and can only help an emerging technology.
