Mandriva throws open source server solution challenge

Mandriva has launched version 4.0 of its Corporate Server 4.0, what it calls a full, open solution that allows rapid server deployment in any environment.

 

Among the stated benefits of this version are reliability, security and low administration costs. Mandriva boasts that it can add to these with ease of use, access to exclusive utilities and professional services for the administration and integration of servers.

 

Mandriva claims that Corporate Server 4.0 has been designed to be modular and customisable, with the product allowing uncomplicated configuration of specialised servers, such as mail servers, file and print servers and directory servers. Configuration processes are aided by FIBRIC, an installation assistant accessible by web browser.

 

In terms of compatible hardware and other solutions, Mandriva has an existing alliance with Intel and boasts partnerships with manufacturers such as HP and other server manufacturers. Corporate Server 4.0 also supports a range of enterprise software systems such as Oracle, Websphere, DB2 and Arkeia.

 

The company believes that it is essential to support virtualization, but in recognition of the fact that there are a number of virtualisation philosophies, the company has decided to support a selection of virtualisation technologies including VMware, Xen and OpenVZ. The firm says it is especially proud of the integration work that it has done in partnership with the company responsible for OpenVZ, SWsoft.
