Case study: Shipbroking company utilises Telstra International’s Asia expertise

Howe Robinson & Co. Ltd (Howe Robinson) is one of the world’s largest shipbroking companies, providing dry-cargo and containership broking services to ship owners, charterers and ship buyers and sellers across the globe. Headquartered in London, with around 100 brokers based in its London head office, the company has recently looked to expand its operations overseas, especially in Asia which has grown into the world’s hub for the shipping trade in the past decade.

To ensure the company could take advantage of increasing growth opportunities in Asia, Howe Robinson began a strategy of increasing its overseas operations by opening up regional satellite offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Hamburg. To support this expansion initially the company used local network providers, but found the service to be of insufficient quality. For the expansion to be effective and for its overseas brokers to be able to serve their client base effectively, Howe Robinson required a trusted network provider with specialist expertise across Asia which could provide a resilient high-capacity network.
