BT is implementing a fully automated "spambuster" system to track and tackle professional spammers and botnet-infected users on the BT broadband network.
BT estimates that about 80% of e-mails - 6.5 billion a day - are spam. These are not only generated by professional spammers, but also by botnets - where the PCs of unsuspecting users are secretly infected with rogue software.
The spam detection system - Content Forensics from StreamShield Networks - scans millions of e-mails a day, enabling BT to identify professional spam operators and terminate rogue accounts.
