
Windows 7 is finally here and Microsoft is hoping businesses
will buy it from day one. UK retailer PC World is opening its doors
at midnight to sell copies of the new desktop operating system, and
Amazon has said thatpre-orders for Windows 7have outsold Harry
Potter.
"Windows 7 brings to consumers more choice and value than any
previous Microsoft operating system," said Ashley Highfield,
managing director and vice-president of Consumer and Online,
Microsoft UK. "We have worked with partners and consumers alike to
deliver an improved user experience with enhanced performance and
functionality that promote ease and simplicity in everyday
tasks."
Upgrading the Home Edition costs £79.99 until 31 December, then
£99.99. The full version of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition costs
£229.99.
Home users can buy a three-user licence through the Windows 7
Family Pack for £149.99. Students can upgrade for £30.
Sky TV subscribers will be able to use Sky's internet TV
service, Sky Player, in Windows Media Center to watch live and
on-demand TV from Sky on a PC.
