
Google has joined Adobe'sOpen Screen
Projectaimed at creating a consistent video runtime
environment across all devices using theFlash Platform.
The search firm joins nearly 50 technology companies working
together to remove the barriers to publishing web content and
applications across mobile phones, desktops and other devices.
"We have always believed that open platforms lead to greater
innovation on the web and we see participating in the Open Screen
Project as another step in that direction," said Bill Coughran,
senior vice-president of engineering at Google in a
blog post.
"We are excited to continue working with the teams at Adobe on
pushing the web forward and to see where the next generation of web
development will take us," he said.
Other participants in the project include the BBC, Cisco,
Comcast, Intel, Motorola, Nokia, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung, Sony
Ericsson, The New York Times, Toshiba and Verizon Wireless.
