Googlehas added new tools to the services it offers
to web hosting firms that allow their clients toimprove website performance.
Google launched an initial set of products for hosting firms
earlier this year. These included Webmaster Tools, Custom Search,
Site Search and AdSense.
The latest tools are:
- Web
Elements, which allows webmasters to add maps, real-time
news, calendars, presentations, spreadsheets and YouTube videos to
their sites simply by cutting and pasting. The Conversation Element
allows visitors to add comments to stories they read on a website.
The Custom Search Element provides inline search over the sites for
which the webmaster is responsible (or others they specify) without
having to write any code.
- Page Speed,
which allows webmasters to measure the performance of their
websites and provides advice on how to make them faster.
- Tips for Hosters, which offers advice to hosters for
creating a richer website hosting platform. Hosters can improve the
convenience and accessibility of tools by learning how to use
analytics tools such as Google Analytics to help webmasters
understand their traffic, and linguistic tools such as Google
Translate to help websites reach a broader audience.
Hosting companies will need to sign up to
Google's
Services for Websites programme and to integrate with the
service APIs before they can offer the services to webmasters.
