Virtualisation software firm
VMware has announced a $362m cash and stock deal to acquire
Java framework specialist
SpringSource.
The SpringSource online application management technology is
expected to extend VMware's ability to offer cloud computing
services to the enterprise.
SpringSource's developers are likely to help VMware get its
vShere virtualisation hypervisor and management software to
work with cloud applications.
VMware chief executive Paul Maritz said integration between the
two would enable businesses to know what cloud applications are
doing and to manage them.
The move could also mark the start of a developer community
centred around vSphere, according to some analysts.
The deal is expected to close in September.
