Number 4 leads the way in decyphering cryptarithm

Chelmsford reader Ivor Smith has been looking at the puzzle possibilities with multiplication sums of the special type NNN x NN = NNNN, where all nine digits 1 to 9 are present, once each with no zero. He has discovered that if the left hand number is 4, the position of the other digits can be deduced.
