Microsoft's updated desktop management toolset for users with
volume licensing contracts and
Software Assurance maintenance contracts is now available.
Announced last month,
Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Pack (MDOP) 2008 R2 includes
updates to application virtualisation and asset management
tools.
The R2 release does not include the new licence reconciliation
features for MDOP's Asset Inventory Service 1.5 (AIS).
This update will be available in early November, says Redmond.
The AIS 1.5 reconciliation feature tells users if the software
deployed in their systems is compliant with their licensing
agreements.
At the beginning of next year, Microsoft intends to add its
Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualisation (MED-V) software to
MDOP.
This will be the first Microsoft-branded release of the recently
acquired Kidaro technology.
