National Express East Coast is offering as many as 10 million customers free wireless internet access at York station.

This will enable customers to connect in the station and remain connected on their journey as the company already offers access on the train.

The company introduced free Wi-Fi for all passengers throughout Standard as well as First Class on its trains from day one of its seven-year franchise on 9 December 2007. Usage increased four-fold in the first month alone

Train company's are using the ability to offer customers the opportunity to work while travelling as an advantage over driving and flying.

"For business passengers our Wi-Fi creates a productive mobile office, with the ability to send and receive e-mails as well as to access the internet. Staying online throughout a journey can mean the difference between clinching a deal or losing out," said Steve Soards, station manager for National Express East Coast at York.
