Cisco and Microsoft will develop joint architectures that
combine
Windows Server 2008 with
Cisco WAN Optimisation programs for branch office
environments.
The Cisco-Microsoft system will enable customers to accelerate
access to centralised applications, and virtually deploy
appropriate Windows services to their
remote offices.
As well as optimising the performance of apps, the integration
will also lower operational costs related to remote office IT, said
the companies.
Cisco will embed a
virtualisation component within its
Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) appliance family that
will help customers to host Windows Server 2008 services within
their existing network infrastructure for branch offices.
Cisco will offer Windows Server 2008 pre-installed on its new
virtualised
Cisco WAAS appliances, scheduled to be available later this
year.
To optimise the value of the joint program, the two companies
plan to test and validate the resulting architectures for remote
information technology infrastructure in the branch office, and to
offer customers joint support.
In addition, Cisco and Microsoft plan to work together to
promote awareness of the integrated solution among channel
resellers and customers by offering business frameworks and
marketing programmes.
