Local authorities are failing to take advantage of
technology to enable mobile working, according to research from
mobile applications supplier Consillium Technologies.
In a survey of 93 local authorities the company found that 20%
had no plans to implement a mobile strategy, while 33% were in the
planning phase.
Staff reluctance, cost and support issues were seen as
barriers.
Of those authorities that have implemented a mobile strategy 57%
said it had
cut costs, 61% said it had improved working practices and 51%
said it had improved customer service.
"There is clearly still a substantial number of local
authorities yet to
take advantage of mobile working. It is time for authorities to
realise the benefits or risk getting left behind," said Gareth
Tolerton, chief technology officer at Consilium Technologies.
