Plan
Internationalis due to go live with an
installation of the Cognos 8 datawarehouse tool at the start of
next month.
The charity organisation, which works to reduce child poverty in
49 developing countries, will use the software to provide donors
with regular progress reports on the children and projects they
fund.
"Sponsorship and finance managers will be e-mailed monthly
reports, allowing them to look at information across countries and
regions. Internal auditors, regional staff and our programme staff
will be able to drill down into the reports, to look at trends,"
said Teresa Hogan, global applications manager at Plan
International.
Plan International hired business intelligence specialist Morgan
Benjamin to build the Cognos 8 datawarehouse at the charity's UK
headquarters. The datawarehouse will consolidate information into a
single, consistent source that will be made available to all Plan
International's global offices.
Testing began this week (17 September). The charity will
initially deploy Cognos 8 to 10 pilot users and train them to use
the software.
"The first element is to make sure they can do the same work in
the new environment as they used to do in the old system. Then we
will look at additional functionality, particularly on how they can
distribute reports more efficiently," said Hogan.
