Low-power local area mobile phone network
supplier,Private Mobile Networks (PMN), has
joined a construction industry grouping aimed at promoting the use
of mobile technology.
The Construction
Opportunities for Mobile IT (COMIT) grouping was set up in 2002
with start-up funding from the UK Department of Trade and Industry
to research and trial mobile IT technologies for use in the
construction industry.
Neil Pawsey, COMIT chairman said, "PMN will bring knowledge,
experience and expertise in mobile voice technology to address the
challenges COMIT faces in driving innovative technologies into the
construction sector."
PMN is licensed to use mobile wireless spectrum not used by the
major mobile network operators to set up small private mobile
networks.
Dean Parsons, managing director of PMN, said, "We see some
excellent opportunities for effective use of private mobile
networks for temporary deployments on construction sites."
Earlier this year
COMIT joined forces with the Construction Industry Computing
Association (CICA) to encourage the adoption of mobile IT in
the architecture, engineering and construction sector.
COMIT and CICA will jointly engage with suppliers as well as
develop best practice and share cross-community experience.
