Intellecthas launched a guide to best
practice in software testing supported by more than 25
organisations.
Software purchasers have now been advised to check if suppliers
are following the code.
Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology industry,
has issued its
Software
Testing Code of Best Practice, which aims to ensure more
software-testing programmes are delivered successfully.
The code is supported by more than 25 organisations involved in
software standards and testing, including the
British Standards
Institute.
Poor testing results in a negative image of software, which in
turn reduces investment in software and therefore the industry's
input to the economy, said Intellect.
The new code lays out ten commitments to best practice in ten
specific areas when considering or undertaking testing.
Intellect is encouraging all software suppliers to now follow
the guide and is calling on those purchasing software to check if
their supplier adheres to it.
Software suppliers that have already signed up to the code
include Microsoft, IBM, Logica and EDS.
John Higgins, director general of Intellect, said, "This code,
based on the know how of the best in the business, sets new
standards for the sector and will help ensure software works well
for us all."
