The Free Software Foundation will officially release the
GNU GPL version 3
open source software licence this week.
The new licence, used to manage
Linux-based software and other open source solutions, will
include new clauses
covering non-exclusive licence patents for the open source
community and digital rights management.
It will also address issues such as the important open source
licensing deal between Novell and Microsoft.
The FSF said, “With the release of GPLv3, we will see new
defences extended to free software. These defences will continue
the long history of fighting all efforts to make free software
proprietary.”
The launch is expected to include news of new Linux applications
built around the Linux OS kernel.
The launch will take place at the FSF offices at midday US
eastern time.
