UK slips down e-readiness table

The UK is less ready for the global e-economy than it was last year, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Last year, the EIU ranked the UK number five in the world in its annual e-readiness table, but the UK has now slipped to number seven, after other countries made greater e-progress.
 
Denmark and the US retained their number one and two spots in the rankings (with Sweden also tied for second).

Hong Kong (4th), Singapore (6th), South Korea (16th), Taiwan (17th) and Japan (18th) have seen their rankings improve on last year.

Switzerland fell from third place and took the UK’s number five slot.

Those countries that saw their positions improve were helped by "their governments' vision and commitment in pushing digital development, and continued progress in the adoption of broadband and other advanced infrastructure”, said the EIU.
