Red Hat has announced the availability of
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, which includes
virtualisation capabilities to help firms cut server
costs.
Red Hat announced the availability of the Advanced Platform, for
mission-critical server deployments, as well as an updated
Enterprise Desktop for user productivity.
The company said the Advanced Platform would help users greatly
reduce the cost and complexity of purchasing, integrating and
managing separate virtualisation, storage management and high
availability software.
Enhancements include performance, scalability and security
features, extensive new hardware support, an expanded development
environment and toolset, and improved interoperability with Windows
and Unix.
The introduction of virtualisation technology in Red Hat’s
offering follows a similar move by Novell, with its virtualised
SuSE Linux platform.
To manage the virtualisation features, Red Hat has developed the
Red Hat Network Satellite management software.
