Microsoft patch release is Vista-free

Microsoft has released 12 security patches to address vulnerabilities in Windows, Office, its security products and other software, but there are no fixes for the company’s new Vista operating system.

Six of the patches are deemed “critical” by Microsoft, and six are described as “important”.

The only connection between Vista and the 12 patches is that Windows Defender is one of the products needing a critical patch. As Windows Defender ships with Vista, the OS could technically be targeted by the threat.

The latest version of Office - Office 2007 - is also off the hook regarding what products the patches are aimed at.

Amongst the patches are fixes to address flaws in older versions of Office. These fixes were originally going to be distributed earlier this year, but were pulled on patch quality grounds.
