Check Point Software has increased its offer for rival security company Protect Data of Sweden, and claims over 40% of shareholders in the firm have now committed to sell their stake in the firm.

The deadline for accepting Check Point’s bid has also been extended to 8 January 2007.

The initial tender offer was announced on 20 November, through a wholly owned subsidiary of Check Point
Software in Sweden.

The larger offer now amounts to $625m (£329m), compared to the $586m previously offered.

The offer is subject to a minimum acceptance of more than 90% of all shares in Protect Data.
