Microsoft has pushed back the introduction of Windows XP
Service Pack 3 to the first half of 2008.
The next big upgrade to Windows XP had been expected in the
second half of next year, but delays in the introduction of Windows
Vista are believed to have had an impact on the Windows XP
upgrade.
The last big upgrade to Windows XP, which majored on significant
security upgrades, was Service Pack 2 which was first introduced
over two years ago, in August 2004.
As Microsoft normally staggers the introduction of major updates
via its automatic updating services, many XP users may not see
their OS updated until the second half of 2008, unless they
manually load it themselves.
Windows Vista is expected to be introduced to large businesses
next month, with a general launch expected in January next
year.
