Microsoft has warned users of Windows XP Service Pack 1
(SP1) and Service Pack 1a (SP1a) that its support for the products
ends on Tuesday 10 October.
The move, in line with the software giant’s support lifecycle
policy, will also mean the end of security updates for these
service packs. Microsoft urged users still running Windows XP SP1
or SP1a to upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 as soon as
possible.
Last month the software giant revamped its Custom Support
Agreement programme, which provides support for legacy
products.
The changes – coming as Microsoft prepares to launch Windows
Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 – will give businesses more
time to migrate to newer platforms, but users will still pay
heavily for extended Custom Support coverage.
