The OpenAjax Alliance has further opened itself up by
signing up new partners and launching a new website to drive
Ajax-based web technologies.
The existing group of Alliance members already included Adobe,
BEA, Borland, the Eclipse Foundation, Google, IBM, Intel, Novell,
Oracle, Red Hat, SAP, and Tibco.
These have now been joined by Sun Microsystems and a host of
smaller companies and niche developers including: American
Greetings, Bling Software, Curl, edge IPK, eLink Business
Innovations, Enovia, MatrixOne, Finetooth, The Front Side, Ikivo,
Ilog, IN2, IT Mill, Javeline, and Jwax.
OpenAjax is looking to make maximum use out of the Ajax
(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) web-scripting language.
Ajax allows developers to include more interactive user
interfaces in web applications.
OpenAjax, launched this year, seeks to simplify Ajax programming
to make delivering these interfaces easier, particularly as there
aren’t many Ajax specialists currently on the job market.
The Alliance aims to help deliver lower development costs and
faster delivery of Web 2.0 innovations, facilitate vendor choice
and interoperability, and help create a richer web experience
through incremental web features that can be added to existing
websites.
“Jon Ferraiolo of IBM on behalf of OpenAjax Alliance, said,
“Ajax is a major phenomenon in the computer industry and will be
the foundation of the next generation of the web. Our mission is to
accelerate customer success with Ajax through our technical and
marketing activities.”
The Alliance has launched its new website at
www.openajax.org, which
outlines the group's strategic goals and publishes its first
technology white paper.
The Alliance is also developing an OpenAjax Hub, which
represents a key part of the technical work and goals of the
alliance.
The OpenAjax Hub is a set of standard JavaScript functionality
features defined by the OpenAjax Alliance, which addresses key
interoperability issues that arise when multiple Ajax libraries are
used within the same web page.
Version 1.0 of the OpenAjax Hub is expected by early 2007.
