IBM is aiming to poach HP blade server customers with
its new global Blade Migration Center programme.
Big Blue is using the scheme to promote its IBM BladeCenter
platform. The programme is backed by a global team of more than 300
consultants and technologists who promise to make it easy for
clients to come over to IBM.
IBM will also offer existing HP blade clients a £550 incentive
to make the switch.
Doug Balog, IBM BladeCenter vice president and business line
executive, said, “While HP has introduced three generations of
blades with no backward compatibility, IBM has offered clients a
consistent approach and superior design innovation for the world's
fastest growing server platform.”
The IBM Blade Migration Center programme aims to help clients
consolidate their IT infrastructures on the IBM BladeCenter
platform with both free and fee-based migration services to help
speed and simplify the process.
Migration services will include: the assessment of current
processes; requirement specifications; solution definition,
architecture and roadmap design; preparation and planning; skills
transfer and training on best practices; and implementation and
integration assistance.
Migration consultants will use the IBM Consolidation Discovery
and Analysis Tool (CDAT), which is software designed to optimise
users’ server networks.
Analyst Gartner said IBM was the market leader in blade servers,
with 42.8% of the market.
