The British Council is replacing a large variety of IT
systems with a SAP-based system to simplify and improve its
business processes.
The system is expected to save money for the council, the UK’s
international organisation for educational and cultural relations,
by slashing the number of different software licences needed to
support its functions. The implementation is also expected to
reduce the number of staff needed to run back-office systems.
The £27m IT roll-out will cover systems in more than 200
locations across 110 countries. Sites in the
UK, India and other locations have already gone live with the SAP
system, and the whole project is expected to be finished by spring
2009.
Areas covered by the system include financial management, and
teaching programmes that make it easier for teachers and students
to access courses.
