Oracle maps path to SOA for retail users

Tuesday 06 June 2006 08:05

Oracle has mapped out the next part of its service oriented architecture strategy, with an upgrade path for users of its retail software.

Oracle has certified its Retail Merchandising System for use with Oracle Fusion Middleware 10g. This means that Oracle retail users will be assured of an upgrade path, and will be able to integrate the applications, said the company.

The initiative is part of Oracle’s plan to move users of its software onto a modular services-based platform that uses standards-based technologies and allows other suppliers’ applications to integrate more easily with Oracle systems.

The Oracle Retail Merchandising System includes Oracle Retail, Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. The software is being used by 30,000 companies worldwide, according to Oracle.

“Middleware is playing an increasingly important role in retail applications and applications development,” said Oracle retail vice-president Thomas Madigan.

Duncan Angove, general manager for Oracle’s retail global business unit, said, “Oracle’s retail customers have a significant need to integrate their diverse IT environments.”
