Trafford Metropolitan City Council is two-thirds through
a three-phase joint development project with SAP to modernise its
ageing social services IT system.
The new software will provide a greater understanding of the
customer, said Susan Williams, leader of the council.
Speaking of the benefit of working with SAP, Mike Cooney,
executive director of community services and social care at
Trafford council, said there were commercial benefits to working
with SAP to develop the software.
“We now have a reliable system which will help the local
authority over the next few years by giving us a single customer
view,” said Cooney.
The council would not have been able to buy a single
off-the-shelf product to satisfy its business requirements, he
said. And working with other authorities to develop a shared social
services system would have taken much longer than the joint
development with SAP.
The software, derived from SAP CRM, has been running since April
2005. Last month, Trafford added case management to the system,
allowing social services staff to look at all the services required
by an individual.
In July, the council is planning to roll out the final stage of
the SAP-developed social services system, with the addition of
financial integration.
