Google has launched version 4 of its Google Desktop
system and unveiled other services to improve the way users can
manage web content.
As well as Google Desktop 4, Google has released Google
Notebook, Google Trends and Google Co-op.
The latest version of Google Desktop allows users to access
small interactive applications, known as “widgets”, from within the
product's sidebar, without having to download software or open up a
browser.
Google Desktop 4 also synchronises with other computers, so when
a change is made on an individual's work machine, for instance, it
is also made on that individual's home computer.
The software can also be configured to create automatically a
customised home page, based on a user's web activity.
Google Notebook allows users to click a Note This link in search
results and save the information to a virtual notebook in a pop-up
window. Users can grab text and pictures from websites and paste
them into Google Notebook.
Google Trends graphs searches based on terms typed into the
search engine, and a bar graph shows what region, country and
language had the most searches for those particular terms.
Google Co-op allows self-described experts in a field to label
or tag their websites in Google’s search engine, making it easier
for others to access their specialist information.
