JasperSoft has launched a new open source business
intelligence server and architecture, as the development of open
source products for the BI market steps up a gear.
The unveiling of JasperServer and the JasperIntelligence
architecture comes just days after rival Pentaho released its open
source BI Suite Professional Edition and Reporting Server
Professional Edition.
Last month enterprise software supplier Actuate released version
2.0 of its BIRT business intelligence and reporting product, based
on the Eclipse Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools open
source project.
JasperSoft’s new architecture is designed to offer data
integration, reporting and analysis throughout the company,
building on its JasperReports technology. JasperServer is a Java BI
server with full support for PHP, Perl, Python and other scripting
languages, designed to offer production-grade reporting to
web-based applications.
Analyst Eric Rogge, from performance management consultancy firm
Ventana Research, said, “More and more business application
developers, especially those working in Java, are turning to open
source business intelligence software.
“Our recent research on open source BI revealed that lower cost
and greater deployment flexibility were leading reasons for using
it rather than commercially available BI products. In fact, the
large majority of the respondents already had commercial BI
products in house, yet chose to use open source BI.”
