Microsoft’s security technology chief is being replaced
as part of a wider re-organisation of the company’s platforms and
services division.
Security head Mike Nash, who for the last four years has led
efforts to convince customers that Microsoft’s products are safe,
is taking a sabbatical, said the firm.
With the rise in internet threats and Microsoft still being
accused by detractors of not doing enough to make sure its products
are up to the challenge, Nash’s role is now being filled by Ben
Fathi.
Fathi has come in from Microsoft's storage division, where he
was responsible for the Windows file server, network attached
storage (NAS) and branch office businesses.
Nash has been with Microsoft since 1991 and was the first
product manager for the Windows NT business operating system.
Microsoft said Nash would eventually be returning to the company
in another, so far undefined, role.
Fathi will report to Brian Valentine, head of Microsoft's core
operating system division.
Other divisions that make up the company’s platforms and
services business have also seen senior management changes, as
Microsoft moves forward with its on-demand web applications
strategy.
