Apple has launched a range of Macintosh computers driven
by Intel processors, including a new high-end laptop range and an
upgraded iMac line-up.
The machines, launched at this week’s Macworld show in San
Francisco, incorporate Intel's new Duo dual-core chip to boost
processing speeds.
The new MacBook Pro laptop will be available next month,
according to Apple. All Apple’s new Macs would be equipped with
Intel processors by the end of this year, said Apple chief
executive officer Steve Jobs.
Apple announced it would be migrating away from the Power PC
processors supplied by IBM last year.
The new iMac line will include a 17in, 1.83GHz device, selling
for £765, and a 20in, 2GHz machine, selling for £1,000.
MacBook Pro laptops will include a model running at 1.67GHz for
£1,175, and a 1.83GHz version costing £1,470. Both models have
15.4in screens.
In addition to the new Macs, Apple has launched a new version of
its iLife software suite, equipped with iWeb, which makes it easier
to create websites with video, audio and content such as blogs.
