SAP has joined forces with Intel to co-develop a
technology to speed search and manipulation of business
data.
The solution, codenamed Euclid, is already being tested by
several customers. Intel has contributed its 64-bit processor
technology to the project, and SAP has thrown in a search system
and related algorithms.
Euclid is designed to give customers of SAP’s enterprise
applications quick, Google-like search abilities with extensive
indexing capabilities.
To help speed up searches, Euclid keeps large amounts of data on
the chip in main memory. Intel’s 64-bit processing system enables
this and allows users to quickly manipulate the data for business
purposes.
SAP is also working with Cisco to bundle its business solutions
with the networking giant’s router and switch hardware.
Such bundles are to be aimed at smaller-sized organisations who
want to take advantage of streamlined business software and
networking implementations.
SAP has not confirmed timescales for commercial releases of the
search and networking solutions.
