Google hit by porn problem

Thursday 24 November 2005 04:37

Google has fixed a technology glitch in its new Google Base personal listings service that delivered large quantities of pornography to unsuspecting users.

Launched just last week, the free listings service allows users to advertise services and sell items.

But Google has been forced to repair its Google Base filtering engine after adult content was not edited out for some users, as requested.

The bugs in Google Base are the third IT problem Google has faced in recent days. It has been forced to patch its search appliance for small businesses, after security researchers alerted it to several security holes that allowed remote attackers to take over users’ networks.

In addition, Google has been forced to end new registrations for its free hosted web analytics marketing service, after being deluged with new applications for the formerly paid for service.
