Interest in parallel processing is being revived by
developments in related fields, which are taking it more into
commercial applications, according to the relaunched BCS Parallel
Processing Specialist Group.
One of these developments, grid computing, will be discussed by
users and suppliers at the group's relaunch meeting.
Speakers from companies such as Intel and Oracle and users
including HSBC and Schlumberger will feature at the all-day event
in London on 27 October.
"The evolution of parallel computing technology has reached a
tipping point which will affect the whole industry," said the
group's acting chairman Tom Lake.
"We have dual and quad multicore processors appearing. Corba and
grid technologies have moved concurrent and co-operative computing
into commercial applications."
