IBM has expanded its virtualisation portfolio to make it
easier for companies to operate mixed hardware and software
environments.
The new Virtualisation Engine offerings range from new tape
storage systems to virtualisation software “wizards" to make it
easier for companies to reduce costs and increase flexibility.
Virtualisation allows companies to easily integrate and operate
mixed storage, server and other operational environments using
hardware and software from different suppliers.
The new products include the IBM Virtualisation Engine TS7510,
an integrated disc and tape product that is designed to help firms
reduce the time it takes to back-up and restore data, while
achieving increased utilisation of tape resources.
Integrated Virtualisation Manager (IVM) is also being bundled with
IBM’s p5 server range at no extra cost, to reduce the complexity
and time involved in setting up and configuring multiple operating
system partitioning on servers.
In addition, IBM is also releasing version 3.1 of its
TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller, along with other products.
