A power cut has hit Microsoft’s Professional Developers
Conference in Los Angeles, cutting short a presentation the company
was making on its new Windows Vista operating system.
The outage struck at around 12.30pm yesterday and lasted until
after 2pm. The Powerpoint presentation on Windows Vista being
delivered by group product manager Greg Sullivan was cut short,
with all the lights in the convention centre also being put
out.
The outage affected other parts of the city too. It is believed
it was caused by local electricity system workers accidentally
slicing a power line in the area.
Yesterday was a pre-conference bulletin to developers. The full
conference is due to start today. Microsoft plans to give away the
latest build of Windows Vista to attendees.
Windows Vista is expected to be widely available to users at the
end of next year.
In 2003, the same conference was affected by forest fires
outside the city, which prevented many delegates from flying into
LA to attend.
